Christmas curry cheer
Bradford’s homeless population were offered a warming invitation this Christmas from a local restaurant, aiming to spread the festive spirit amongst some of the city’s most vulnerable residents.
Last month, on Christmas Day, Aagrah Restaurant Group worked with national homeless charity, Centrepoint, to welcome in diners from the streets for a special holiday feast.
The Shipley-based restaurant served up a hearty three course Asian Christmas Dinner for a host of young people after the team decided they wanted to give something back to the local community.
Aagrah’s Managing Director, Mohammed Aslam, described the event as a ‘great success’ which the whole Aagrah Group was proud to support.
“We wanted to serve those less fortunate in the community with a hot Christmas Kashmiri dinner to some of the many homeless men and women on our door step,” he said.
A supporter of charities and local communities, Aagrah Restaurant Group has to date raised over £2 million pounds for charitable causes across the country.
Their support for the Centrepoint charity came about after figures revealed 83,000 young people experience homelessness every year.
Prince William is currently Patron of the national charity which works to give homeless young people a future by supporting them with housing, health and learning.
76 per cent of the young people supported are under 21 years of age, with such a demographic attending the Aagrah Christmas Dinner last month.
Mr Aslam added: “The occasion at our Shipley restaurant was to ensure the spirit and tradition of giving is shared with the less fortunate.
“For many it was a chance to enjoy a hot meal in the company of other young people.”
