‘Love at first bite’
For decades, Bradford and food have gone hand-in-hand, with a huge range of south Asian delicacies served up from the official curry capital of the UK.
Now, with an ever-growing menu scattered across the city, residents and food fans alike can experience a new taste for their palettes, as Lahori Karahi and Chargha opened its doors last weekend.
Following a launch night on Sunday 13th March, the grand establishment brings a ‘hardcore Asian, traditional desi’ taste to the market, with powerful flavours and unique tastes unparalleled in the area.
Diners can sit back and relax in the impressively renovated restaurant, and watch on as the team of chefs cook up their delectable dishes in the open kitchen and barbeque.
Taking over five months to refurbish, which involved ripping out all the interior fittings, Lahori is now a perfect setting for all occasions.
Owner, Waheed Akhtar, has been in the catering industry for almost two decades, managing a series of successful restaurants in the past.
Lahori represents his first foray into ownership, and, alongside wife Parveen, he says he is determined to make it a hit.
“A lot of time and effort has been put into setting up Lahori here in Bradford and the result is this amazing restaurant,” he said.
“Our open kitchen and barbeque is unlike anything else in Bradford, cooking up a unique atmosphere I’m sure our diners are going to love.
“Feedback from our launch was fantastic, and I would just like to extend an invite out to all food fans who really appreciate traditional Lahori food, to come down and see what this place is all about.”
Amongst the dishes diners can look forward to sampling at Lahori is the mouth-watering starter – Steam Roast Chicken Chargha.
Here, a whole chicken is marinated for several hours, allowing the poultry’s natural juices to combine with a blend of secret spices as it is slowly steam roasted. The result? A tender, succulent dish which melts in the mouth.
Why not follow it up with the Lahori Karahi for mains and experience desi cooking at its finest? Prepared and served in a wok, the dish is packed full of flavour and transports diners back to the streets of Lahore for a bite of food heaven.
Waheed added: “In Bradford you obviously have a lot of restaurants, with Leeds Road and Great Horton Road seen by many as the two hubs for food connoisseurs.
“Here at Lahori, we have a different type of cooking which you could call ‘hardcore Asian’. Unavailable elsewhere in Bradford, foodies are going to love it.”
So, to truly experience ‘love at first bite’, make sure you visit Lahori Karahi and Chargha.
