For the past six months, the must-visit establishment has been drawing in food fanatics from across the North of England, eager to try out the traditional Indian sweets with an artisan twist.
Classic Indian favourites are given a new lease of life at Barfia, infused with western elements and beautifully presented, resulting in a modern and sophisticated range of Indian confectionery.
Helen, who runs Barfia with her two brothers, Steven and Daniel, said it had been a fantastic first six months.
“We opened Barfia after noticing a gap in the market for designer Asian sweets,” she said.
“During a couple of fact-finding, research trips down south, we frequented the main Barfia business in the capital and instantly fell in love with the concept there.
“We wanted to bring that concept up north and by franchising this business here, word has got out and business is going great.”
Barfia sweets feature tantalising dessert flavours, such as bubblegum bottles and creamy cheesecake, with something to delight every customer.
As well as being packed with flavour, each sweet looks elegant and tempting and all are vegetarian friendly, egg free and gluten free.
“We have over 20 flavours at the moment and they do change,” Helen said, “Millionaire Shortbread, Raspberry and White Chocolate and Popcorn Caramel are the most popular at the moment.”
The sensational sweet makers also cater for events and weddings.
Helen added: “We do Barfia stands at weddings and they go down a storm.”
Alongside their range of Indian-inspired creations, Barfia have also reinvented the delicate Parisian macaroon so that the luxury treat is now filled with the signature flavours of barfi.
Meanwhile, their savoury range continues to delight customers across the region, with samosas and Gol Gappay proving to be the perfect partner to a Barfi milkshake.
