Pakistani pop star turned religious cleric, Junaid Jamshed, is among 47 people to have been killed in a Pakistan International Airlines crash on Wednesday 7th December.
The 52-year-old, who was also a respected fashion designer, was on board the plane when it crashed in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province’s Havelian area.
On a previous visit to Bradford in 2015, he told the Asian Express that learning about other people’s values was imperative to creating a cohesive society – something perhaps truer today than ever before.
“When you know exactly who you are and what you values are – people of other faiths and cultures accept you more readily,” he said. “That is the key to integration.”
Thirty-one men, nine women and two children were onboard the PIA flight when it crash landed along with five crew members.
Shocking pictures emerged online shortly after the incident, showing the remains of flight PK-661 in the country’s Abbottabad district.
Eye witness reports suggested that it was unlikely there would be any survivors due to the intensity of the fire.
Tributes to Mr Jamshed flooded in on social media, with fans paying tribute to the star and all the passengers on the plane.
Mosharraf Zaidi, wrote: “Junaid Jamshed’s journey was so quintessentially Pakistani. Conflicted, passionate, devoted, ubersmart, and so, so talented. Tragic loss.”
Omar Suleiman added: “Shocked and heartbroken by news that Junaid Jamshed and his wife, along with 40+ passengers, passed away.”
Shireen Mazari said: “Junaid Jamshed will be remembered in different ways by different people. For me it was his music with Vital Signs and beyond. Tragic loss.”
