A free PopUp Business School is coming to Huddersfield in October to help local people who are not in employment start their own business.
The PopUp Business School approach is the opposite of traditional approaches to starting a business. They don’t believe in business plans, loans or grants because it puts more people off than it helps.
From Monday 15th October, the PopUp Business School will run a ten-day course at the Yorkshire Children’s Centre, Brian Jackson House, Huddersfield to help potential entrepreneurs, small businesses and start-ups take their business ideas forward.
The scheme is part of the Positive People Hopeful Families programme, funded by the European Social Fund and the National Lottery, through the Big Lottery Fund.
Jo Hannar, partnership manager at Positive People, says: “The PopUp Business School is an exhilarating ten-day course providing practical ways to get a business idea off the ground and launch online – without spending any money.
“We hope that anyone currently not in employment with an ambition to run their own business will grab this fantastic, free opportunity to learn new skills and take the first step to a whole new future for themselves.”
Workshops will include topics such as starting a business without investment, sales and marketing, building a free website and finding customers. Participants can choose from a variety of free workshops or attend the full two-week course.
Alan Donegan, PopUp Business School, co-founder, says: “Our approach is not traditional. Forget business plans and funding, we get people going quickly, testing their ideas to make money doing what they love.”
Hopeful Families is the first programme of its kind in West Yorkshire helping people who are out of work to build their confidence and overcome the challenges they face in finding employment. The programme is personally tailored to individual needs and includes help with personal development, health and wellbeing and developing life-skills including digital technology.
Hopeful Families is a partnership between Yorkshire Children’s Centre, Halifax Opportunities Trust, Groundwork, Dominion Training and Nova delivering a £2.4 million programme to hundreds of people across Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield.
