#TriJanuary marks six months to go until World Triathlon Series heads to Britain
With six months to go until the prestigious AJ Bell World Triathlon Leeds and Accenture World Triathlon Mixed Relay Nottingham arrive on British soil, British Triathlon is encouraging the nation to get active via swim, bike and run; whatever way they wish.
Tri January is designed to invite newcomers into the world of triathlon, offering the freedom of completing your chosen challenge in your own time. The British Triathlon campaign comes six months before the cities of Leeds and Nottingham prepare to welcome thousands of participants, spanning beginners to elite, to their respective triathlon start lines on 8-9 and 15 June 2019.
Reigning ITU Paratriathlon World Champion and Strictly Come Dancing star Lauren Steadman is fronting the campaign, joined by Deborah James and Lauren Mahon from multi-award winning You Me and the Big C podcast and TV Sports Presenter, Mike Bushell. Together the quartet are aiming to encourage over 5,000 people to complete a triathlon over the course of January.
Each of the four famous faces will take on a different triathlon distance and encourage others to do the same – showing that triathlon is for everyone, regardless of age, ability or lifestyle.
Andy Salmon, British Triathlon CEO, said: “Tri January gives the opportunity for complete triathlon beginners to begin thinking about how they can put swim, bike and run together in a way that suits them.
“With six months before two of the world’s biggest and best triathlon showcases take place on home soil, we hope Tri January inspires people to get involved in the AJ Bell World Triathlon Leeds or Accenture World Triathlon Mixed Relay Nottingham, whether that be by donning a swimming hat and taking part, going behind the scenes and volunteering or simply heading across to Leeds or Nottingham to cheer on their sporting heroes in June.”

The Challenges
Swim or row, bike and run throughout the month by choosing your challenge and completing one of the distances below:
- TEAM YOU ME AND THE BIG C (GO TRI distance – 15km)
- TEAM BUSHELL (Sprint distance – 25km)
- TEAM STEADMAN (Standard distance – 50km)
Participants are encouraged to grab their workout gear and give whichever distance suits them most a try.
There is no set formula for completing the challenge, as long as you achieve the distance. So, swim one day – or jump on the indoor rower if you prefer – bike the next and run the week after. Alternatively, you can complete the whole challenge all in one go. Tri January is designed to fit activity into even the most hectic of lifestyles. Your triathlon; your choice.
Tri January aims to engage new participants and those with a ‘revolving door’ relationship with sport and physical activity with fun and accessible challenges, triathlon-style.
