The serving Metropolitan Police inspector has been placed on restricted duties while the claims are investigated.
He was arrested on 22nd August by Sussex Police, who are heading the investigation.
“We can confirm a serving Metropolitan Police officer has been arrested on suspicion of rape and stalking involving serious alarm or distress,” the Met Police said.
The allegations are not related to his role as a royalty and specialist protection command officer, the force said.
Scotland Yard has made a mandatory referral of the case to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
The police watchdog decided the force’s internal standards department should carry out its own investigation of the allegations.
