The meet and greet is one of many community events the Manchester Originals team is involved in for the 2023 season of The Hundred.
On Monday 14th August, a group of 25 young cricket fans from local community groups including Rainbow Surprise Community Project gathered at Cheetham Hill, Manchester, to meet Pakistan cricket star Usama Mir.
They had the chance to grill the talented leg-spinner about all things cricket, and his recent time spent playing on the Manchester Originals team for the 2023 season of The Hundred.
Mir’s visit to the Cheetham Hill Chaiiwala store brought the thrilling action of The Hundred direct to Cheetham Hill, allowing young fans to meet and interact with their local team, who are currently preparing to play their final two home games at Emirates Old Trafford.
The visit is just one of many local community events the Manchester Originals team has been involved with across the 2023 season, drumming up excitement for the competition for fans across Greater Manchester.
Chaiiwala itself was announced as an official partner of The Hundred earlier this year. Alongside the store visit, it has also joined the Manchester Originals team in celebration at ‘Eid in the Park’, as well as bringing The Hundred branding to all regular cups in Chaiiwala stores across the UK.
The Hundred has firmly established itself as an unmissable summer experience for fans and families across the UK, with Manchester Original games at Emirates Old Trafford drawing in large crowds from across Greater Manchester and beyond. Now in its third year, the competition combines a short, fast form of cricket with blockbuster entertainment, making cricket more accessible and reaching new and broader audiences.
The Manchester Originals team will return to Emirates Old Trafford for their final home games on the 20th and 23rd August, where they will be joined by special guests from a much-anticipated music line up including Nxdia and headline act Lottery Winners.
Speaking about the event, Usama Mir said: “It was amazing to meet so many young cricket fans and have the chance to talk to them. I loved hearing all the questions they had!
“The excitement the children showed is a real testament to all the work that The Hundred has done to bring cricket to new and wider audiences. We’ve got a big few games coming up to hopefully reach The Final!”
