Packed crowds attended the official Indian government ceremony to commemorate the anniversary of Indian Independence Day.
Hundreds of guests attended the flag raising ceremony at midday Tuesday 15th August at Cardiff Castle which was surrounded by dozens of saffron, white and green Indian national flags to celebrate the 76th anniversary of independence.
The event had been organised by Indian Honorary Consul Raj Aggarwal and was attended by Welsh Assembly Minister Jane Hutt, Cardiff Deputy Lord Mayor Jane Henshaw, as well as senior officers from the armed forces, police and community leaders.
The British Army Band Tidworth performed for the guests and also played the national anthems.
Guests and Dignitaries at Cardiff Castle for the Flag Raising Ceremony
It was a beautiful sunny day and there were hundreds of people present to see the flag raising ceremony at Cardiff Castle and hear speeches by Raj Aggarwal and Cardiff’s Deputy Lord Mayor Jane Henshaw.
The event was the official Indian government’s celebration in Wales to commemorate the anniversary of Indian Independence (August 15th, 1947) and the Indian Tiranga flag flew over Cardiff Castle for the day.
In his speech Indian diplomat Raj Aggarwal said: “Indian Independence Day is celebrated all over the world with lots of love and pride, and to celebrate it with all our friends and colleagues.”
