A dynamic and energetic street dance production, Crazy Smooth: In My Body is a captivating experience performance by a super-talented Canadian dance troupe. The show offers something you don’t quite expect (which in my opinion, is the best way to go if you never experienced theatre). The production combines street dance and breaking with intense lighting and impeccable music production. The dancers all range from 26 to 58 and take is on their personal journeys as dancers and how aging effects their mind and body. I was hooked from the very start.
The show starts with a male dancer as his story is shared through a cinematic medium, which was truly engaging and focussed. As the other dancers join him on stage, we are at awe at their talent and charm. From the breaking skills to their collaborative timing and the duo and solo pieces, you are drawn in and there is never a dull moment. Crazy Smooth is the artistic director and choreographer of the production and has perfectly created a balance of lighting, sound and dance. Each element compliments each other and creates a spectacle not quite seen before.
The personal stories delivered throughout were immensely inspirational and provided an extra push to anyone who is doubting about fulfilling their dreams. The dancers break boundaries that are put on them by society regarding agism.
In conclusion, the message of the show was to break boundaries, defy convention and challenge society about agism. We are encouraged to cheer on the dancers feel exhilarated from start to finish; it almost feels like we’re on a rollercoaster ride of emotions with their high energy and choreography. It truly feels like magic. Never a dull moment, this was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
