Hamara has announced the commencement of construction for a new £3.2m leisure and wellbeing hub, The Cockburn Centre in Hunslet Moor, Leeds.
 
The facility which is now closed to the public, has been funded by 14 different funders including Hamara and aims to become a national centre of excellence for grassroots sport and wellbeing. 

It will integrate activity rooms, welfare and changing facilities, staff offices, as well as a flood lit multi use games area (at the rear) and indoor sports hall to accommodate community sports throughout the year.
 
They were joined by local Ward Councillors, Cllr Mohammed Iqbal, Cllr Paul Wray and Cllr Shafaqat Ali and NU Construction Ltd Managing Director, Simon Smith and Gary Mallon, Contracts Manager alongside Project Lead, Arnie Sajid and Hamara’s Director, Raheem Mohammed.
  
Cllr Mohammed Iqbal, Chair of Hamara, said: “We are proud of our Senior Management Team and Trustees vision to deliver a new centre that will enhance the experience for our increasing number of beneficiaries. We’re grateful too to all funders, colleagues and partners working to design, build, and provide, what will be a highly renowned centre in South Leeds.
 
“The new facility will further enhance Hamara’s capacity to deliver specialised support for our beneficiaries.  This is a legacy project with a key focus on community impact as we drive sport participation and community cohesion for everyone in our localities.”
